“Canan Balkır is an adjunct Professor in the Department of Economics at Florida International University since 2018. She is a former Jean Monnet Chair in European Economic Integration and coordinator of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Dokuz Eylül University, Izmir, Turkey. She received her BA from METU, PhD from Ege University and continued her academic studies in USA under Fulbright and in UK under British Council scholarship. Her research spans European Studies, focusing on economic integration, trade issues, the economics of EU–Turkey relations, EU retirement migration to Turkey and Europeanization. 

In 2011, her book on “International Economic Integration: Theory, Policy and Practice”, Bilgi Publications, Istanbul 2010, received the first prize of Turkish Academy of Sciences.
